富田町は、藍作で栄えた徳島の代表的な飲食の街で、全長450ｍ幅員約6ｍの通りに歩行者、車、自転車が混在して往来する。路面は川の流れのように舗石を敷き、
誰もが楽しく歩け、車が速度を出しにくいデザインを試みる。交差点は、方角を示し四方が見渡せるような広場をつくる。徳島産青石を半円形状に敷いた通りの部
分は、桜祭り、七夕、盆踊りなど季節の催しに、「町の庭」として様々な表情を生む場にする。吉野川流域の砂利を使った洗い出し透水性舗装は、地中に雨水を浸
透させ、車の騒音や真夏の照り返し、眩しい光の反射を抑える。Street back to the pedestrian
An entertainment district, Tomidamachi is representative of traditional Tokushima that had flourished with indigo production. Pedestrian and wheeled traffic mix across the busy 6 m. wide street. The street’s stone paving is laid like a flowing river for pleasurable walking and as a speed deterrent for wheeled traffic.Commanding an overall view, the junctions have been designed as piazzas. The local green stone (aoishi) intermittently creates semi-circular ‘clue places’ for activity along the street. Here bamboo or lantern festoons etc. create various seasonal moods during festivity over the year. The street finish, with exposed aggregate from the local Yoshino riverbed, is permeable and allows rain to percolate and recharge groundwater. It also reduces noise and glare as well as reflected heat of mid-summer.
