アルカジアARCASIA（アジア建築家評議会）大会は、南アジア、東南アジア、東アジア、２１カ国の建築家協会の建築家が毎年集まり、開催国の建築文化に触れながら、講演会、展覧会や授賞式のほか、建築がかかわる社会、文化、環境、職能、教育等、様々なテーマで話し合われる。その活動の一環として、グリーン・持続可能建築委員会ACGSAの会合が、インドネシア、スマラン市で行われ、夫婦で参加する。テーマは「Living with Water」である。美しい水際空間の創出がテーマになるよりか、地球規模での深刻な水質汚染や飲料水、水不足や災害、喪失する文化遺産や伝統的知恵に対して建築家として、どう考え、取り組むかが議論となった。スマラン宣言が準備された。

In early April we attended the Round Table Conference for the Arcasia Committee for Green and Sustainable Architecture (ACGSA) at Semarang, Indonesia. 21 Asian countries meet 2~3 times every year to attend lectures and discuss about culture, environment, education and social responsibility of the profession. 

As part of this activity Nii, representing JIA at the ACGSA, and I attended the meeting. The theme at Indonesia was “Living with Water”. Including the traditional and historical values attached to water, various natural and man-made problems in the total water cycle were discussed, such as, floods, drought, lowering of the water table, salinity, pollution, water waste and lack of drinking water. Solutions of water planning, collection, education and bioremediation were considered. “Semarang Declaration”, for greater commitment to water use, ended the fruitful 2 day-long exchange.
