３月８日、建築のノーベル賞と言われるプリツカー賞をドーシ先生が受賞した知らせを受けた。昨年ARCASIA（アジア建築家評議会）インド・ジャイプール大会に参加した後、家族でアーメダバードのお宅にお邪魔した。インド大会の基調講演はドーシ先生で、多くの感動を呼んでいた。とてもお元気な９０歳の現役、励ましを頂いた。

On 8^th March we heard Mr.B.V. Doshi had won the prestigious Pritzker Prize for Architecture, news that gave us much happiness, pride and encouragement. 

師はインドに現代建築と教育の礎を築いた一人で、1980年代当時同じく師だった画家サグラ先生を始め学生に気さくに接してくれる素晴らしい先生がキャンパスにたくさんいたことを思い出す。たくさんの友人もできた。

Last May, we attended ARCASIA (Architects’ Council for Asia) held in Jaipur, India. At 90, it was wonderful to see Mr. Doshi’s energy in his inspiring Key note Lecture on the theme,” Happiness through Architecture”. We later met him in his house in Ahmedabad with son, Soma.

The founder of Architectural education in India, at the School of Architecture, Ahmedabad in the 1980s, we students could casually come in contact with motivating teachers like artist, Piraji Sagara on the campus.

その後、1982年頃私たちが師の設計に従事していたインド経営大学院バンガロールを訪ねた。地元の花コウ岩と鉄筋コンクリートできたキャンパス空間は、大きく育った樹木や植物と一体になり、涼しく落ち着いた風格のある研究と学びの場になっていた。

In 1982, in Mr. Doshi’s office, Nii and I worked on Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore. We visited it last year, the concrete and local granite in strong contrast with the now fully grown greens, creating a stimulating, cool and quiet academic environment. To have participated in a small way in the making of this moving complex is a matter of great pride for us.
